Turpin captivity case: Children forgive parents for torture


A California couple’s children have forgiven them for years of torture and starvation as the parents were sentenced to life in prison.

David and Louise Turpin’s children told a court they still loved their mother and father despite all the abuse.
The couple were arrested in January 2018 when their 17-year-old daughter escaped the filthy home in Perris.
The Turpins pleaded guilty to the abuse of all but one of their 13 children for at least nine years.

The couple wept as they heard victim-impact statements from four of their children at Friday’s hearing.

Aerial photos help census officials pinpoint faraway people

Technology News : The U.S. Census Bureau is using new high-tech tools to help get an accurate population count next year as its faces challenges tallying people of color who live in remote places and can be wary of the federal government.The agency is using aerial photos of rural communities and hard-to-reach areas to verify addresses and determine where to send workers to ensure everyone is counted, Census Bureau Director Steven Dillingham said. Satellites and planes take photos, and bureau employees compare the housing captured in the images to digital maps from the last census, in 2010. It takes a fraction of the time needed by workers in the field. David Williams has been bitten by a snake six times. “The first time was pretty terrifying because I didn’t know what to expect.
